How to update your kitchen with a limited budget:

1. Clean
After a thorough scrub, you can find the real problem areas. But, if you have the same problem as most - you may be asking yourself, where do you start? It can be easy to get carried away when it comes to cleaning. Let's be real, you are trying to clean the kitchen as you see a jacket left on the back of the chair. Then putting the jacket up turns into a full closet transformation. Finally, you discover the bed needs to be made. Several hours later, the kitchen remains untouched. Who can relate?
Where to Begin
Pantry: Start with your pantry. Begin by donating boxed food (non-perishables) to any of these local food banks:
Be sure to throw away all expired foods! If these foods are not in date for you to eat, they are not in shape to be donated!
Floors, Hardware, and Sink: Does your back already hurt? But really, a good scrub on your floors will go a long way! If you have tile flooring, clean the grout with hot water and soft scrub. For the stove, hardware, and sinks - shine them up! Your stove should be clear of grease splatter (Just because it has been there awhile, doesn't mean it disappears on its own). Hardware and the sinks should be shiny! If you can't see yourself in it - keep cleaning!
Paint: A fresh coat of paint is a great way for an instant facelift into your kitchen. If your kitchen is feeling small, try a brighter color such as one of these.
Update Light Fixtures: Another great way to brighten up your kitchen is to replace those outdated fixtures for new ones. Go for something light and airy that ties in with your hardware and appliances.
Cabinets: Cabinets that are older are not a complete lost cause. Before you go to the assumption of having to replace them, try freshening them up with a fresh coat of paint. If you spent less money on updating light fixtures, replace your cabinets for a modern style! White cabinets are always a great way to make a kitchen look large.
Countertops: Start by cleaning your countertops with your favorite cleaner. Make sure to eliminate any crumbs, stains, or grease spots. If you are still not satisfied, let's update them.
